Currently's San Francisco weather reporter, Priya Shukla, wrote a children's activity book, Marine Biology Activities for Kids, which is available for pre-order starting today.

When she is not writing the weather reports for the bay area, Shukla is a PhD candidate at UC Davis studying the effects of climate change on oysters.

Shukla said that she wrote this activity book to give kids an opportunity to engage with the fantastic and weird creatures of the ocean.

“Some of the reasons that I pursued marine science as a profession, are grounded in the memories I made as a kid,” said Shukla.

She said that she tried to sprinkle in information throughout the book about how humans effect the ocean, with the hope that kids will develop and appreciation and connection to nature.

“I do I really firmly believe that if you can start to see glimpses of the beauty of nature anywhere, then that will give you a stronger motivation for protecting the community that you're a part of,” Shukla said.

The activity book, is ideal for kids ages 7 through 9, it has mazes, word searches, crossword puzzles and more. You can get it here.
